The much anticipated cricketing spectacle is about to unfold, in all its pomp and glory, the party is about to kick off, the gala event is about to reach its business end, the bonanza is about to reach the crescendo, the plot is about to thicken-hearts are about to skip a beat, eyes are about to pop out of the sockets, jaws are about to drop, shoulders are about to sink, sighs are about to be muttered, shrieks are about to be uttered-time stands still with everyone rendered speechless, spell bound and non compos mentis with joy and amazement.

When was the last time we managed to win a test series against the world’s best side? Back in mid 1994. When was the last time we managed to beat them in a test match? Back in late 1995. With a thirteen year long drought at our back, what our source of optimism in giving the Aussies a tough fight, is beyond me.

This year-the preceding one as well-will go down in our cricketing history as its blackest chapter to date. As its about to draw to a close, and a few chilly days later, the sun will finally set on this abysmal and sordid year for our cricket, time for us to pause, look back at what went wrong, admit our mistakes, correct them and learn from them-time for introspection and cogitation.
